Question:

Can anyone tell me what the typical differences are between the Audi 80 and 90? I know that (in Europe) the Audi 90 usually is equipped with a 2.3 5-cylinder engine, but then again so are some Audi 80’s. I am thinking about buying an Audi from around 1990 and wonder what the better buy is (90 or similarly equipped 80). Should I draw any conclusions from the fact that there are more Audi 80’s than 90’s? Also, are there any particular items I should watch for before buying either model? Any advise is welcome.

Response:

In the US, the 80s had 4 cylinders except the Q which were 5s. If you are looking for a Q the 80s can offer a better value. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Can anyone tell me what the typical differences are between the Audi > 80 and 90?

Response:

Hi Serge! Differences between 80/90 (in Europe): I’ll list all the regular stuff that a 90 came with and the 80 didn’t have, except one ordered it as an extra. The 90 came with: 5 – Cylinder engine 2.0 or 2.3 or 2.3 20V (Turbo-Diesel was the same in 80 & 90) rear Disc-Brakes Bumpers painted in body-colour Fog-lights in front bumper All-red tail-light-bar Procon-Ten (only until 88!) Cloth-interior (better quality compared to 80) Seperate High and low-beam lights (but combined in one unit) Chromium on bumpers and sides electric mirrors and a few more things… Hope I could help you a little. Regards Jake B. (former ‘89 90Q – owner)
