Question:

I’m considering the purchase of a 2000 A6 2.7T that does not have the sport suspension. I really want the sport suspension and the dealership will install the components I want for parts cost prior to purchase. I don’t want a harsher ride than the sport suspension provides. The sales guys at the dealership are a little in the dark on this so I’ll go talk with their parts and service guys as well. The info below helps alot. If anybody else knows the differences between standard and sport suspensions on the 200 A6 2.T I would also like to know id the sport suspension has bigger anit-roll abrs. Aar

I don’t have no Audi A6, but a friend of mine has. He’s got a 2000 A6 Avant, with the sportsuspension. And I believe he’s changed the dampers to adjustable KONI dampers. Myself, I drive an Audi A4 Limo, with Eibach springs. My ride is almost just as low, but still not the same. His is firm, yet very comfortable. Mine is more comfortable than firm. When It comes to roadholding, it’s hard to compare, as it is two different cars – both in size and weight, but I can more or less keep up (if it wasn’t for him having 2 times HP than me ;) on twisty roads. At least thru the sharp turns :) I must say though, that his factory installed sportsuspention, with them adjustable (yellow?) KONI dampers, is the most sporty AND comfortable ride I’ve experienced. When it comes to treadwear, it’s more a matter of adjusting all the angles (camber, to-in, etc.) on the car, than anything else (I believe). Okay, this might not be good help to you, but still, this is MY experience with these two cars. And I’ve been driving them both a lot – both "driving miss daisy" like and "if I get stopped now, I’m going to jail" … You have most probably asked the dealership what THEY think, but if now – ask for a comparition test. If they don’t have two A6 cars with different settings, try another model. Ask if they know two different buyers who got the different suspentions.  - good luck!

The mechanics at the dealership told me the Eibachs are stiffer and lower the car more than the factory sport springs. The springs are the only difference between the sport and regular suspensions. Further, I drove a sport and regular suspension A6 back-to-back and the roughness of ride in the sport suspension was not worth the cornering improvement in my opinion. I pick up my A6 tomorrow! Before starting this thread I scanned 15 pages of AudiWorld posts and only found topics about modifying the A6 beyond the Eibachs or Sport suspension. Aar

Are the springs in the factory installed Audi sport packages the same Eibach springs offered through the Audi dealerships? I am specifically interested in the sport package on the 2000 A6 2.7T vs the Eibach spring kit for the same car. Secondarily, what service life span in miles do you expect from the stock struts in a 2000 A6 2.7T? I’m asking from both the performance and tire wear perspectives. What aftermarket struts would you recommend for a comfortable but sporty ride? Aar
