Question:

> When do people normally put the tires on?

If you really MUST know, I did it last night, around 10 PM.  Of course, it hasn’t snowed on THIS side of the lake either, but one of the Dunlops was flat and I had to pull it off anyway, so I did all four. — C.R. Here in Northern Europe it is said that with road below 7 degrees centigrade (I guess that is 7-10 F) wintertires have better grip in all weather because of the softer rubber, Greetings Aksel Denmark

I put mine on a couple of weeks ago, and that is why we’ve had no snow here yet.  Of course, last year, I waited and got drilled for it. Ah…such is life. That would be 44.6F. – D.

That would mean I leave mine on all year; except maybe July … — C.R. Krieger "Don’t argue with ‘em, dear; they’re beneath our dignity." – W.C. Fields

Here in New Hampshire I had mine put on November 16th.  Mostly because I had the day off and could get it done. It usually snows here before Thanksgiving, but last Saturday night we finally got some snow … and I was letting my son use my car so I didn’t get to try the quattro. I’m sure I’m wasting these tires on my daily 70 mile round trip commute on the highway. OTOH, I wanted that extra measure of safety after last year. Put them on right now. The winter tires are not just for snow and ice – the softer compound works much better in cold temperatures than hard All Season or summer tires. If it gets below 40 degrees F, you need your winter tires. John Davies Monroe WA USA 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon 2000 Audi A4 quattro 1.8T 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4×4
